Your hardwood flooring feel that, too! As a pure material, wood is influenced by the air and moisture about it. As the humidity levels in the atmosphere grow, hardwood flooring can be susceptible to cupping, and that's when the planks absorb water and swell, hitting other boards and bending. At Westminster Floor Sanding , we take additional precautions when installing hardwood floors to reduce cupping. However there are still some things you can do as a homeowner to keep your floors in fantastic shape this summer.

1.Use minimal water when mopping.

It is always best practice to use a minimal quantity of water when mopping hardwood flooring. But in the summertime, it is even more crucial that you do so. When humidity levels are higher, water takes more time to evaporate. Becuase it sits on the timber longer than it may in the wintertime, more water may take into the wood. Over time, the wood may warp.

2.Use a dehumidifier.

Having a dehumidifier, particularly a whole-home dehumidifier, you've got more control over the humidity level in your home. This system will eliminate moisture from the atmosphere, and it may help prolong the life span of your hardwood flooring. Even running a little unit on rainy days will be helpful.

Hire an expert hardwood floor contractor.

Together with our group of hardwood installation specialists, you are going to get a hardwood flooring that's installed correctly and efficiently. We all know the quirks of installing hardwood in the summer, and you can trust the Floor Sanding Westminster Staff to keep you informed each step of the way. But as gorgeous as they are, your wood floors will eventually begin to wear out. One approach to make them survive would be to add an underlayment.

Provides Stability

Stability important to your wood floors. A busted floor is not as secure as it needs to be. Plus, whenever you replace the older timber flooring with newer planks, you might damage the subfloor beneath the timber. Adding an underlayment can prevent harm from lack of equilibrium.

Cushions the Floors

The cushioning effect provided by the underlayment makes the floor a lot easier to walk on. Over time, foot traffic will probably create your wood floors to put on down, fortunately, underlayment can slow down this process. While you will need to repair, refinish, or replace your floors at some point, an underlayment will help them last longer until bigger maintenance projects are demanded.

Reduces Noise

If your hardwood flooring start to create sound, the sound can quickly grate on your nerves. With an underlayment in place, you can make those sounds stop. It is particularly important to add one when your children and pets running around the home, which may make the noises louder.

Controls Moisture Damage

Moisture can be an issue year-round. Plus, there's always the possibility someone might spill water or some other liquid on the ground. Adding an underlayment helps control moisture damage, particularly from humidity.

Helps Insulate the Floor

When it is cold out, all you want to do is to keep your toes warm. Socks and slippers are excellent

solutions, but what if you would rather walk around at home while barefoot? An underlayment helps keep your wood floors warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer by providing an excess layer of insulating material between the wood surface along with the subfloor.
If your lovely wooden floors are no longer as attractive as they were when they were fitted, you may select to receive them refinished by the flooring experts. There are also steps you can take to keep them in this gorgeous state.

At the beginning it's important to note that if you do plan to perform care yourself then be sure to only use cleaning products which have been recommended by the manufacturer.

By cleaning the floors regularly, you can guarantee that now it's been restored to its former glory, it stays that way. However, you have to remember that water and wood are not good companions.

This may have put you off having water-based cleaning goods, so if you do decide to use a vacuum instead, then make sure that the beater bar is turned off - or just use the attachment with a milder nozzle for all these floors. Otherwise, the surface could be ruined from the vacuum cleaner.floorsandingwestminsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18250361022830106867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199167992012188612.post-51832571352431600892018-05-16T06:37:00.002-07:002018-05-16T06:37:52.807-07:00RESTORING YOUR PARQUET FLOOR

For those that enjoy the appeal of hardwood flooring, but want something just a little bit different and really unique, parquet flooring is a popular option. Parquet flooring is created by cutting wood into tiles or blocks and then organizing these blocks into different geometric patterns, like a herringbone or basket weave pattern. You can use just about any kind of wood to get a parquet floor, which means that you may select something to suit your taste in addition to your budget!

However, like with any type of flooring, over time your parquet floor can become damaged or worn. It might be that you've moved into a house with pre-existing parquet floors, or that you've only had your own for some time and want to breathe fresh life back into it. Luckily for you, there are a number of ways you can restore your parquet floor back into its former glory.

You may find that certain individual blocks or tiles have become chipped or damaged, or that openings have appeared owing to your floor enlarging or contracting naturally. If this is the case, it is a great idea to either repair or replace the damaged blocks. This is only one of the numerous benefits of parquet floors -- because it is composed of multiple tiny cubes, it is possible to make modest fixes without having to replace the entire floor, saving you time and money.

If the whole flooring is looking worn, replacing a couple of blocks wouldn't always be your very best plan of action. In this scenario, you might choose to re-sand the entire floor and maybe add a fresh end to it. You would be amazed by how much a gap a layer of varnish or wax may have on your floor's appearance!

The main point to remember, however, is that in the event that you do not have experience in fitting flooring, it is always best to ask experts for support. While something may seem like an easy task at first glance, without the proper knowledge, tools and experience things can quickly fail.

At Westminster Floor Sanding we provide a resanding and renovation service and will reform your hardwood flooring into its former glory in no time.floorsandingwestminsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18250361022830106867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199167992012188612.post-12211163651575648162018-04-16T06:45:00.000-07:002018-04-16T06:45:38.574-07:00Hardwood Floor Cleaners

1. Quebracho - From the Spanish “quebrar hacha,” which literally means
“axe breaker.” Aptly named, wood in the Schinopsis genus is among the
heaviest and hardest in the world.
2. Lignum Vitae -Widely accepted as the hardest wood in the world–this
wood has been listed as an endangered species and is listed in CITES.
Consider Verawood as a very close substitute.
3. Gidgee - This Australian endemic is both very heavy and very strong.
Some pieces are dark enough to be used as an ebony substitute: one that’s
even harder than the original article.
4. Snakewood - It’s easy to see what makes Snakewood so unique–its patterns
and markings resemble the skin of a snake. Limited supply and high demand
make this one of the most expensive woods on eart.
5. Verawood - Sometimes called Argentine Lignum Vitae, this wood is a gem:
inexpensive, great olive-green color, beautiful feathery grain pattern, and
it takes a great natural polish on the lathe.
6. Camelthorn - Formerly classified as a member of the Acacia genus, this
south African hardwood is a tough customer. The wood is stubbornly hard,
and the tree is protected by giant sharp thorns.
7. African Blackwood - In some parts of the world, this wood has achieved
an almost legendary status. Historical evidence points to this wood
(rather than Diospyros spp.) being the original “ebony.”
8. Black Ironwood - Pieces are very seldom seen for sale, as this tree is
too small to produce commercially viable lumber. Like the unrelated
Desert Ironwood, Black Ironwood is an excellent choice for small
turning projects.
9. Katalox / Wamara - Some pieces can be just about a dark as true ebony,
while others are a more reddish brown with black streaks. So much depth
in the Swartzia genus, there’s something for everyone!
10. Cebil- Also known as Curupay or by the exaggerated name Patagonian
Rosewood, Cebil is not a true rosewood. It has a highly variable streaked
appearance not too unlike Goncalo Alves.floorsandingwestminsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18250361022830106867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199167992012188612.post-31591562244581463132017-03-24T07:27:00.001-07:002017-03-24T07:27:45.629-07:00Westminster Floor Sandingfloorsandingwestminsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18250361022830106867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199167992012188612.post-65767677154444194992017-03-24T07:24:00.002-07:002018-10-29T06:52:10.212-07:00Test your floors
Wooden floors are the most solid and classic material in each home this days. The elegance that wooden floors are showing us and keeping the fact that it last for many decades is making wood flooring an attractive for informed house owners!

If you have a hardwood flooring, you can refinish it and bring back the in it sparkle again!
Wood as a material base is a porous and vulnerable. Many people today usually choose to help their floors last longer as protecting them against moisture with sanding. A simple test to find out your floor condition is to place a drop of water on it- if the drop isn’t absorbed, or takes a few minutes to soak in,this mean that your wooden floor may be in good shape, but in case the drop soaks in immediately- this mean that it is time for renovation !floorsandingwestminsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18250361022830106867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199167992012188612.post-68889835502677480112017-02-22T03:33:00.002-08:002017-02-22T03:33:37.893-08:00Westminster Floor Sandingfloorsandingwestminsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18250361022830106867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199167992012188612.post-31090307616457959412017-02-22T03:33:00.000-08:002018-10-29T06:52:20.975-07:00Little apartment renovation

OAK

Oak is the most widely used hardwood. There are more than 60 species of oak grown in the U.S., which can
be separated into two basic varieties; white and red. The red variety is also known as black oak (a reference
to its bark).

Properties: Oak is a heavy, strong, light colored hardwood. It is ring porous, due to the fact that more and
larger conductive vessels are laid down early in the summer, rather than later. Prominent rings and large pores
give oak a course texture and prominent grain. Oak also has conspicuous medullary rays which can be seen as
"flakes" in quarter sawed oak lumber.

Uses: Oak is the most popular wood used to craft American and English country designs. It is also used for
Gothic and William & Mary reproductions, as well as many transitional and contemporary pieces.
MAPLE
There are 115 species of maple. Only 5 commercially important species grow in the U.S. Two of the five are hard rock maple and sugar maple.
Maple is so hard and resistant to shocks that it is often used for bowling alley floors. Its diffuse
evenly sized pores give the wood a fine texture and even grain. Maple that has a curly grain is often used for violin backs (the pattern formed is known as fiddleback figure). Burls, leaf figure, and birds-eye figures found in maple are used extensively for veneers. The Birds eye figure in maple is said to be the result of stunted growth and is quite rare.
Maple is used extensively for American colonial furniture, especially in medium and lower priced categories. It can also be stained to simulate cherry wood, which it resembles.floorsandingwestminsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18250361022830106867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199167992012188612.post-34927177124684006892016-06-15T07:31:00.001-07:002016-10-24T06:14:45.262-07:00

MAHOGANY

Mahogany, also known as Honduras mahogany is a tropical hardwood indigenous to South America,
Central America and Africa. There are many different grades and species sold under this name, which vary widely in quality and price. Mahogany which comes from the Caribbean is thought to be the hardest, strongest and best quality. Logs from Africa, though highly figured, are of slightly lesser quality. Philippine mahogany has a similar color, but is not really mahogany at all. It is a much less valuable wood, being less strong, not as durable or as beautiful when finished.

Mahogany is strong, with a uniform pore structure and poorly defined annual rings. It has a reddish
- brown color and may display stripe, ribbon, broken stripe, rope, ripple, mottle, fiddleback or blister figures.Crotch mahogany figures are widely used and greatly valued. Mahogany is an excellent carving wood and finishes well.Mahogany is used extensively in the crafting of Georgian, Empire and Federal reproduction furniture. Mahogany is also used in styles ranging from Victorian furniture reproductions to Contemporary.
HICKORY

There are 15 species of hickory in the eastern United States, eight of which are commercially important.

Properties: Hickory is one of the heaviest and hardest woods available. Pecan is a species of hickory sometimes
used in furniture. It has a close grain without much figure.

Uses: Wood from the hickory is used for structural parts, especially where strength and thinness are required.
Decorative hickory veneers are also commonly used.floorsandingwestminsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18250361022830106867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199167992012188612.post-90846526061017498962016-04-13T07:10:00.001-07:002016-10-24T06:17:14.554-07:00

ASH

There are 16 species of ash which grow in the eastern United States. Of these, the white ash is the
largest and most commercially important.

Properties: Ash is a hard, heavy, ring porous hardwood. It has a prominent grain that resembles oak, and a white to light brown color. Ash can be differentiated from hickory (pecan) which it also resembles, by white dots in the darker summerwood which can be seen with the naked eye. Ash burls have a twisted, interwoven figure.

Uses: Ash is widely used for structural frames and steam bent furniture pieces. It is often less expensive than comparable hardwoods.
WALNUT

Walnut is one of the most versatile and popular cabinet making woods. It grows in Europe, America and Asia.
There are many different varieties.

Properties: Walnut is strong, hard and durable, without being excessively heavy. It has excellent woodworking
qualities, and takes finishes well. The wood is light to dark chocolate brown in color with a straight grain
in the trunk. Wavy grain is present toward the roots, and walnut stumps are often dug out and used as a source of highly figured veneer. Large burls are common. Walnut solids and veneers show a wide range of figures, including strips, burls, mottles, crotches, curls and butts. European walnut is lighter in color and slightly finer in texture than American black walnut, but otherwise comparable.

Uses: Walnut is used in all types of fine cabinet work, especially 1 8th century reproductions.
PINE
Pine is a softwood which grows in most areas of the Northern Hemisphere. There are more than 100 species worldwide. The modern English name pine derives from Latin pinus, which some have traced to the Indo-European base *pīt- ‘resin’ (source of English pituitary).[3] In the past (pre-19th century) they were often known as fir, from Old Norse fura, by way of Middle English firre. The Old Norse name is still used for pines in some modern north European languages, in Danish fyr, in Norwegian fura/fure/furu, Swedish fura/furu, Dutch vuren, and German Föhre, but in modern English, fir is now restricted to fir (Abies) and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga).
Pine is a soft, white or pale yellow wood which is light weight, straight grained and lacks figure.
It resists shrinking and swelling. Knotty pine is often used for decorative effect.
Pine is often used for country or provincial furniture. Pickled, whitened, painted and oil finishes
are often used on this wood.floorsandingwestminsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18250361022830106867noreply@blogger.com0
